IN PURSUIT OF A GREAT FORCE

The pursuit of peace is one of the greatest forces of our age. Gerald Holtom understood that a symbol makes a message potent and so, inspired by a painting by Goya, he designed the peace symbol. Evoking the outline of a person with arms outstretched, palms facing outwards, the design revises an image of self-sacrifice into an emblem for peacefully embracing all. Its elegant simplicity commands a hypnotic attraction that has been the universal sign for empathy and progression of humankind. In the tumult of modern life, promoting peace and fostering solidarity remains essential, only now even closer to home.
